Holland is not equal to Nederlands

When I said Holland is just a province in Netherlands, the ticketing officer (Dutch man) got excited. He said No-no-No, Holland is Nederlands, I live here my whole life, I know. He was very adamant about it so I didn't say anything more but just gave him a huge plastic smile.
